Customer Retention & Lifetime Value Strategist

I make every customer worth more.

Strategy, offers and messaging that turn one-time buyers into repeat customers for golf and personal development brands.

I find where the money is leaking. Then I fix it.

For over five years I've been the guy behind the offers, emails and campaigns for several golf and personal development brands. From the head of copywriting, email marketing and automation for Athletic Motion Golf, to head of copywriting and email marketing for Peter Sage, and marketing manager for Archetypal Relationships, where my colleague and I rebuilt the brand image and messaging from scratch before relaunching. Adding lead gens, ad creatives, and follow-up sequences to promote, sell and elevate customers.

I help with strategy, analysis and offer creation, then help put it into motion with the messaging and automations, so nothing gets lost between the plan and the send.

Now, a little backstory... Years ago I spent my days as a conductor and engineer for the railroad, then my nights as a rockstar in a few bands. After 6 years, I just couldn't do it anymore. No more livelong days... (no more railroad, music was cool) I knew I was meant for more and wanted to travel. So, I looked for ways to make money online, and quit my job WAYY before I replaced my income. It got tough after 6 months... But I kept learning and honing my skills and immersing myself in self-development until one day it paid off! I heard back from Peter Sage and his team! They saw my ability and off we went! I haven't looked back since.

Off the clock, I like to play music, read a lot of nonfiction, and I'm writing a book of my own. When I get out for a round of golf, my back nine is usually better than my front... turns out that's the half I'm best at in business too.

And I'll talk Formula One, racing, football, music or personal growth with anyone who'll listen for as long as they will listen. Mostly personal growth as I'm obsessed with discovering the one thing that gets people from passivity to purposeful!

Last note... Most of my work has been on a contract basis and I like it that way. However, I'm open to a full-time role if it's a good fit, and happy to narrow my focus if it's aligned.

How I work

The back nine doesn't get the attention it deserves.

The front nine is getting the customer: ads, content, lead magnets and the first sale. In my experience, that's where agencies and contractors put most of their focus. Too often, the customer buys one product or program, and then the brand goes quiet or sends the same promo to everyone.

The back nine is everything after that first purchase. It's where the profit is, because you've already paid to get that customer. That's how AMG's customer lifetime value reached $660... by selling more to the customers they already had, not by buying more leads.

The Back Nine System

Nine holes every brand should have working after the first sale. When I start with a brand, I score all nine, then build the missing ones in order of revenue potential.

What I focus on

Everything that happens after the first sale, plus the copy that makes it sell.

Lifetime value strategy

I map what each customer should buy next, then build the offers, campaigns and flows that get them there. At AMG, customer lifetime value reached $660, and my manager called it wild given how few new offers we had.

Offer and product ideas

I find what your customers want to buy next and shape it into an offer. At AMG, I spotted gaps in the funnel and recommended the Iron Fundamentals and Driver Fundamentals programs, which brought in new revenue.

Research and angles

I read what your customers actually say, find the gaps in your product line, and find the angle that makes an old product feel new. At AMG, that meant digging through 130 customer emails.

Email and SMS flows

Welcome, abandoned cart, post-purchase, upsell and cross-sell automations that keep selling while you coach, film or run the business.

Win-backs and flash sales

I bring lapsed customers back and create revenue spikes on demand, without training your list to wait for discounts.

Reviews, testimonials and referrals

Systems that collect customer feedback and testimonials, plus referral programs that get your fans telling their friends about you.

Deliverability

None of it works if the emails don't land. Warmups, list hygiene, domain reputation and platform migrations.

Copy that sells

Sales pages, emails, ads and lead magnets, written in the founder's voice so they can send it without editing.

Case study

Build the brand first. Then hit play.

Archetypal Relationships needed its brand rebuilt from the ground up. We spent the first months building it: the look, the messaging, the website, the offers and the lead generation quizzes. Once the owner was happy with how it looked and felt, we launched and started driving traffic.

What clients say

"He's really been able to portray my voice in a really compelling way, which naturally generates more leads."

James Peters, transformational mindset coach

Client for 3+ years

"I've worked with Tanner for over 3 years now as our copywriter and email strategist. From the newsletters and event campaigns to sales pages and ad creatives. His writing, angles and ideas are impressive and I realised early on that I don't have to correct his work before it goes out. He understands my voice extremely well and he takes real pride in getting it right. He goes above and beyond and is always a step ahead of what we need and can think outside the box, that's what's important with a copywriter!"

Morgan Nelson, Millionaire Mindset & Business Coach

Client for 18 months

"It's a rare find for somebody like that. Go hire him, he's freaking awesome."

Where I'm still growing

Visual design

I'm not a graphic designer. When a project needs strong visual design, I write the creative brief and work alongside a designer to bring it to life.

Over-polishing

I used to hold drafts too long trying to make them perfect. I've cultivated more trust in myself and my process, so strong work goes out on time and the results guide what gets refined.

Let's talk.

Hiring for retention, lifecycle, email or copy? I'd like to hear what you're building.

Running a brand? Send me your store or program, and I'll tell you the three holes I'd fix first. It's free, and the ideas are yours either way.
